Every year, a select sample of Condé Nast Traveler readers take the Readers’ Choice Survey and rate their top choices across the globe in a variety of travel categories, including top cities, top islands, and top hotels. For 2009, Maui was at the top of everyone’s list for best island destination, receiving a rating of 90.1, followed by Kauai with 87.8, and Maldives with 87.5. In fact, only 11 islands in the world rate above 80, and seven are in the Pacific or Australia!

The Music of Hawaii!

The music of Hawaii is a diverse and expansive mixture of traditional and modern styles. One of our favorite Hawaiian artists is Hapa, who perfectly embraces the peacefulness of Maui. The serenity of the group’s music comes from the oli (chant), mele (song), movements of the hula, along with the presence of guitar. And one of our favorite Hapa songs? That’s a hard one, but Ka Uluwehi O Ke Kai is definitely at the top of most lists, including ours:
